PONDERABLES

If, as minister of transport, Omar Alghabra, implied while testifying before a commons committee that it isn’t his job to regulate airlines, then whose job is it?

Given all the disorder (including at least one fist fight) in the U.S. house of congress during the prolonged and raucous election of Kevin McCarthy as speaker, how long will it be before he triggers the next chaotic event?

JUSTIN TRUDEAU PONDERABLES

Has Justin Trudeau forgotten how he mocked the Harper government when it wanted to acquire the F35 fighter jets that he’s now bragging about his government purchasing? (Of course he hasn’t forgotten; he’s just a flaming hypocrite.) And how much more have they cost because of the delay?

Why has trade minister Mary Ng not been ordered to resign by the prime minister over her egregious ethics breaches? Could it be because he has a similar record?

THINGS I FIRMLY BELIEVE

It’s past time for Prince Harry to shut up and disappear.

Given the number of violent crimes committed (including murder) by violent criminals who are out on bail after being guilty of serious prior violent offences, it’s clear there are judges that should be impeached.

Connor Bedard is the best junior hockey player I’ve ever seen. (But I never saw Gretzky or Lemieux play junior.)

Montreal MP Anthony Housefather is a rising star in the Liberal party and possibly a future leader.

The late Tom T. Hall was the greatest story-teller-in song ever.

Glenn Miller’s band (which was simply called “his orchestra”) had the most distinctive sound of the big band era, followed closely by Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians.

The players, not the owners, managers, or coaches, are the most important people in sports.

Gordon Lightfoot’s The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is the most boring song ever, and Glen Campbell’s Wichita Lineman the most inane.

Sequels are rarely as good as the originals.

Competition is beneficial in any market.

By nominating against him the the only candidate he could beat (the vastly unpopular Hillary Clinton)  the Democratic Party is actually responsible for Donald Trump becoming president.

Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene is not only a Trump supporter, she’s almost as destructive as he is.

BILL MORNEAU’S BOOK

Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre must be salivating over the anti-Trudeau ammunition former finance minister Bill Morneau has provided in his new book Where To From Here. Parliament’s question period may even become interesting. I haven’t read the book yet, but based on interviews with Morneau that I’ve seen (during which he aired an enormous amount of political dirty laundry) his antipathy toward Trudeau clearly runs deep.
