PONDERABLES
Is there anything more asinine than calls to “defund” the police?
Is the world in the worst shape it’s ever been, or is it just that because of the 24-hour news cycle we know about it?
THINGS I FIRMLY BELIEVE
It’s remarkably appropriate that the first syllable of Twitter is “twit.”
Protesters always have a point, but a lot of the time they’re dead wrong.

PRESIDENT BIDEN’S SPEECH TO THE CANADIAN PARLIAMENT
I’m not a big fan of President Biden and I don’t think he’s been much of a friend to Canada during his presidency. But his speech yesterday to the Canadian Parliament was superb. And having taught public speaking for many years, when it comes to speeches I’m very hard to please. So kudos to whoever wrote it for him, and congratulations to President Biden himself for an almost flawless delivery.
A REMINDER ABOUT TRUMP’S PRESIDENCY
Now that Republican Donald Trump is ramping up his run for the presidency next year, it’s time to remind people that the Democrat Party is actually responsible for him winning the election in 2016. They ran against him the only candidate they had that he could have beaten: the widely despised Hillary Clinton.
AN INTERESTING TAKE ON OUR NEXT ELECTION
Toronto Star columnist, Susan Delacourt, pointed out in a recent column that political polling has indicated Justin Trudeau is particularly disliked by men and Pierre Poilievre equally disliked by women. This could mean the next election will be a gender-gap battle, which would be a first.
ANOTHER TRUEAU FAUX PAS
David Johnston’s admirable stint as Governor General of Canada notwithstanding, his appointment by Justin Trudeau as a “special rapporteur” to investigate and report on Chinese meddling in Canadian elections is truly a dreadful choice. Johnston, with the the many ties that he and his family have to China, is probably an even greater admirer of the country than is Trudeau. Not only that, but Johnston’s lifelong friendship with the Trudeau family and his extensive involvement with the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation, legitimately begs the question as to whether his appointment is Trudeau simply trying to ensure a whitewash job. Anyone who doubts this is indeed the case should read Terry Glavin’s excellent article on the matter in the March 22nd edition of The National Post.
